Day 16 ~ 21 Days of Prayer

Here are Pastor Rob’s notes from his morning prayer devotion:

Vision/Multi-Site Devotion

People get behind good visions

  • Example From the Bible: Jonathan vs. The Philistines
    • This story comes from 1 Samuel 14:1-23
    • Background Info
      • The people of Israel, as usual, were in a terrible military situation. They were facing a vast Philistine army. Only two people, King Saul and his son Jonathan had any weapons—two swords!
      • The Israelites were camped down in a valley, while the Philistines had encamped high up in the pass of Micmac
  • Remember: Visions are birthed from passion, which leads to an idea, which takes the form of an action
  • Jonathan had passion and the desire to defeat the Philistines, but not the ability to do it alone.
  • 1 One day Jonathan said to his armor bearer, “Come on, let’s go over to where the Philistines have their outpost.” But Jonathan did not tell his father what he was doing (Potential to talk about leaving those not on vision behind. –Point: Those off vision miss out on the victory)
  • First thing Jonathan did was win over his armor bearer

A vision without buy-in is no more than a day-dream!

  • Prayer Peeps: Y’all are the armor bearers! You’re hear, carrying the hopes and mission of the church with your prayers, bearing the burdens of the prayer requests of others.
  • I need y’all on vision – what is the vision? – Reach Raise Release
  • Jonathan and his armor bearer go over to fight the Philistines vs. 6 “Let’s go across to the outpost of those pagans,” Jonathan said to his armor bearer. “Perhaps the Lord will help us, for nothing can hinder the LORD. He can win a battle whether he has many warriors or only a few!”
    • (Passionately) Did Jonathan know his plan would succeed, did he know the Philistines would flee before him? NOOO, but he believed it.
    • Do we know absolutely sure that we will reach the whole city of Denver, that Summit church will change the world? No. But we do BELIEVE it!
  • What would you say if some kid asks you to go fight a superior army that outnumbers you, simply because he BELIEVES he will win?
    • Armor bearer’s response, “Do what you think is best,” the armor bearer replied. “I’m with you completely, whatever you decide.”
      • That’s where I need y’all to be today! Pray bodly for the vision! Don’t pray, “God please use somebody at some point in time to reach Denver.” No. Pray with faith, God use me, use my brothers and sisters in my church to reach those in this city that are far from you!
    • No exuses – verses 8-12
      • Jonathan asked God for a totally normal sign
      • Like saying: Make the sun rise in the East
    • Jonathan and armor bearer start WRECKING the Philistines
      • They kill 20 men, which is a small dent in the whole army, but the fact that just 2 men accomplished this causes mass chaos. So much Chaos in fact, that the not as brave Saul sees the commotion
      • First Saul asks a priest to bring him an ephod.
      • Then he realizes there’s no time to ask God, God is already clearly moving
        • Same thing in Denver! Don’t wait for the perfect time, don’t wait till everyone has swords, don’t wait till you’ve convinced the whole army, the whole Christian population, move with the movers!
      • Watch what happens!
      • Saul comes
      • Deserters Come
      • Even Scardy Cats come!

People might be too scared to support an idea, or start a movement, but when the movement gets going strong, people join in. A powerful vision draws people in, but (Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.) Proverbs 28:19
