2018 January Prayer and Fasting

I am thrilled you’ve decided to join our 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting.  My blog is loaded with devotions, recipes and tips for a successful fast.  If you are new to the Daniel Fast, you will enjoy the recipes and the link to my Pinterest site for Daniel Fast recipes tips.  I also recommend visiting Kristen Feola’s website for more fasting ideas and recipes at  www.ultimatedanielfast.com.

To make the most out of your fast, here are a few things I like to do the day before the fast starts.  First, I clean out my refrigerator and pantry, getting rid of all non-approved Daniel Fast foods.  If the cheat food is not in my house, I am not going to eat it.

Second, I set my alarm (and I make my mind up) to get up early for morning prayer at 6am.  If you are joining the fast and unable to make morning prayer, please check back each day for the devotions shared each day.

Third, I keep in mind that a fast is not about the food.  Don’t become obsessed about what you are eating.  Rather, remember that the main purpose of the fast is to remove distractions from your daily routine so that you can dedicate your time to seeking God.

Here are some guidelines from Pastor Franklin:

Take a break from the many diversions that compete for your attention.  Things like social media, talk radio, TV, and even going to movies or anything else the is in your normal routine.  Eliminate distractions so that you can focus on God.

Get your Bible out and spend time in the Word.  Spend time in worship.  (Replace your regular music with worship songs for the 21 days.)  Spend time in prayer.

In short, shift your focus.  Separate yourself apart from your normal life, even your friends, just for a season.  Allow yourself time to press in but also allow time to listen.  Give the Lord permission to wake you up in the middle of the night or early morning, and when he does, even if it is 3am, get out of bed and start praying and interceding… and listening.  Make yourself fully available to the Lord during this season of fasting.
