“Now glory be to God, by his mighty power at work within us is able to do far more than we would ever dare to ask or even dream of — infinitely beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts, or hopes.” Ephesians 3:20 (LB)
After listening to President Trump’s Inaugural Speech last Friday and hearing his words, “think big and dream even bigger,” I asked myself and I am asking you, “What do you dream about?”
Here at Summit, we do dream big! We dream of taking the Good News of Jesus Christ to our families, neighbors, our nation and to every part of the world. That’s right. Our desire is to reach the world for Jesus.
To reach the whole world, we need movements of God everywhere. Movements in all nations, in all people groups, throughout our entire land and abroad. The dream is much bigger than any one of us alone but together, a movement is set in motion.
I love the phrase, “grow where we are, and go where we are not.” In other words, we are to reach those far from God and raise them up in Christ, then release them for His mission. We are committed to growing the movement in our base church, then to launching new movements where the Gospel needs to be proclaimed.
I like how US Campus Ministry defines a movement:
- A movement is the collective activity of committed, multiplying disciples as they band together and trust God for an impact greater than their own individual ministries. Movements foster camaraderie, momentum, enthusiasm and faith. They are synergistic in that the impact of the whole is far greater than the sum of the individual parts. People sense God’s involvement as they prayerfully pursue His leading and direction and then go after it together.
- Building a movement whose purpose is to embrace more than one audience, more than one campus, more than one ethnicity, in more than one nation helps everyone to engage in the full scope of the Great Commission. The resulting effects are significant: 1) We are obedient to what Jesus has called us to do; 2) More people are transformed by the gospel; 3) Our faith is stretched and grows as we see God work in our midst beyond what we could ever do ourselves. This is what true movements do. They change things outside of themselves because of their cause, and they change those involved within them as together, in the power of the Spirit, they trust God for something significant.
Prayer is foundational for any movement to begin and prayer is the fuel that sustains a movement for God. DL Moody put it this way:
Summit’s BIG dream is my BIG dream! As members of Summit Church, will you join me in prayer? Ask God to show you what he has called for you to do in the movement He has already started at Summit. Ask God to grow you where you are as you go where you are not!
Pray for Summit’s vision to reach the world for Jesus through His mighty power. Ask God to provide for our building projects, campus launches, conferences, finances and as well as for His guidance and His wisdom for our leaders. To Him alone be the glory!
