Pastor Lorenzo shares this devotion:
When God’s people come together to worship Him something supernatural takes place. The most powerful example of this is when Christ’s followers are gathered together in the ‘upper room’ in Jerusalem, praying and seeking God. The Lord pours out His Holy Spirit and the Church is birthed by and in His Holy power. Acts chapters 1 and 2 tell this wonderful story.
What is it exactly that makes the gathering of the saints so special? It’s the fact that when we come together in His name, by His power, He Himself is present among us, by His Holy Spirit. In our worship experiences and prayer meetings, or when we serve together as on Serve Day, we hear people say things like, “That was a special meeting – it felt incredible!” Of course, what we’re feeling is the very presence of God Himself walking among us. Today, as we pray, make a point of understanding God is here among us!
Today, we’re praying for our Sunday worship experience and other times we gather together. We are going to ask our Lord for a deeper, more powerful experience of His Holy, omnipotent presence. Let us focus on His supernatural nature, character and ability to be our regular reality. When He manifests His glory, everything changes! Souls are saved, body’s are healed, people are delivered, etc.
That’s God’s part, but what about our part? We read the following encouragement in 1 Corinthians 14:26
“How is it then, brethren? Whenever you come together, each of you has a psalm, has a teaching, has a tongue, has a revelation, has an interpretation. Let all things be done for edification.” When we gather to worship together, the Holy Spirit is present to manifest Himself through each one of us. He chooses how and when but He is always looking for holy servants through whom to show His love and power. What does this require of us then?
As we pray for our meetings, let us focus on three areas:
1. Ask the Holy Spirit to take full control and have His way.
2. Ask Him to use you in whatever way He sees fit. Ask Him to utilize the gifts He has already given you.
3. Come prepared to bring God glory and good to everyone else.
We are indeed an immeasurably privileged people. We are His children. He chose us. So we come with confidence knowing with certainty that Almighty, loving God is waiting to meet with us and to use us to bring His Kingdom upon the earth.
